In May 2009, Comspec installed the very first HDPE Wash Plant of its kind in New Zealand. The plant was designed and purpose-built for this market. It can process 100,000 milk bottles per day.
HDPE milk bottles and containers that would in the past, have been baled and shipped overseas are now able to be processed through this plant, and converted into clean, dry, flaked HDPE. This flake is then fed through the extrusion compounding process with additives specific to the customer's requirements, to produce a customised HDPE resin for use in the manufacturing of pipe, irrigation systems, cable protection, sheet, and other products.
