Comspec has been at the forefront of plastic recycling since 2005, transforming waste plastic into high-quality resins for New Zealand's manufacturing sector. Our advanced processing capabilities enable us to handle a variety of plastics, including HDPE (2), LDPE (4), and Polypropylene (5). With specialist shredders, granulators, extruders, and a high-capacity wash plant, we can efficiently process post-consumer kerbside recyclables.
Comspec is a pioneer in recycling challenging plastics. Our innovative approach and cutting-edge technology enable us to process materials that other facilities cannot, including various polymers. We support New Zealand's environmental goals with sustainable recycling solutions and high-quality recycled resins, aligning with the Government's initiative to phase out hard-to-recycle plastics. Join us in making New Zealand a leader in sustainable plastic recycling.
Comspec’s wash plant is a great example of New Zealand’s plastics recycling industry resolving to deliver environmental, social, and economic benefits to the wider community. Our project exemplifies product stewardship, bringing together milk producers with local South Island councils and recycling operators to provide a local solution to recycling milk bottles and creating cost-effective recycled resin suitable for many applications within New Zealand’s plastics manufacturers.
By recycling locally, we reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Using recycled HDPE bottles replaces the need for virgin plastic, saving an average of one tonne of CO2 for every tonne of plastic recycled. Our wash facility produces high-quality plastic feedstock from household milk bottles and can also process janitorial products. There are opportunities to extend the facility to process other types of plastic resins here in New Zealand rather than overseas.
